94 Saturn SC 2 AC not working

I just bought a 94 sc2 and tried to run the AC for the first time and it does not work. The radiator fan works, and I charged the AC, but still nothing. I took a wire from the compressor and touched it to the positive part of the battery and did hear a 'click'-so i know the compressor is good. Some mechanic told me that it is probably the 'low pressure cut off switch'...well for this car there is no part like that! I called the dealer and they said to replace the 'valve compressor pressure switch'. Has anyone ever heard of that part or know how to replace it? Any other ideas?

The switch is located on the low side line. If your looking at the engine it will be on the right side beside the fender. Its a 2 wire sensor, just unplug it with the a/c on and jump the connector with a paper clip, if the compressor turns on its the switch, if it doesn't, its the compressor. When you connected the positive terminal to the batt positive, all you did was activate the magnet in the compressor, that doesn't tell you if the compressor is bad or good.

OK...I got the part(low pressure switch) and it still does not work....will not take a charge and will not come on....will only come on when the paperclip is in and the AC won't get cold either...don't see any leaks.....put almost 3 cans of refridge in...any ideas?

There has to be a leak some where, can you get a set of gauges to tell you how much psi is in the system? sometimes leaks in the a/c system are hard to find. Try using soap and water if there is any psi in the system to look for leaks, spray all the lines and components. Also you have to have the right psi in the system to work correctly, you cant just put more refrigerant in, you can find the spec on one of the information label in the engine compartment.

I did use a gauge that said it was 'full'....i think around 40 PSI....still when it was full the compressor would not come on w/out the paper clip in...I will try and see if it has a leak with soap and water.... Thanks again for your help.

That 40 psi "FULL" on your guage only means it is full if the compressor is running- otherwise you have 40 psi static pressure which is not enough to activate the system- you must have a big leak...
