WIP: Subaru Impreza WRC 2004 Rally Japan

Hi guys, i'm having a wrc group built with my local forum, so i will put my MB Clk-Gtr aside 1st :tongue:

drill out holes on both sides to insert seatbelts

there's a huge gap between the wheel arch and body, so i add some styrene card to extend the wheel arch

dry fit of the roll cage, since im going to add some wiring, seat belts & some detailing, this is to see where the wiring goes, where fits and where not, since this rollcage is quite complicated, so proper planning of glueing is important, and i spot 2 protuding peg at behind the seat that serve no purpose, i guess it is because the chassis is from 2001 version, which suppose had something there

though i'm building the rally japan, i got another set of tarmac wheels and since i like tarmacs wheel i lowered the suspension and decided to had 2 sets of wheels :p

I only had 1 bottle of finisher ricebox's subaru wrc blue, i worried i might run out halfway, so i mix a custom metalic blue with mr color metallic blue + gaia ultra blue + flurescent pink as base coat, and apply the wrc blue on top of it

though not clearly shown in pics, the A+B results are a deeper blue which i think close enough to the impreza's mica blue

Hi your progress is very interesting to watch, you should choose a tarmac rally now that you have lowered the suspension,:smile:

i couldnt find the monte carlo decal or other tarmac rally :shakehead, i'll see how things goes as i had a 2005 307WRC that had 2 set of monte carlo decals, the problem is petter solberg' car is NOT #1 in 2005 :p

I think I should have spare decals for Solberg 2005 Monte Carlo version...
(I'll build 2006 car with Renaissance TK).

the final color which i post earlier the A+B, the B is ricebox's wrc blue which is matt, so i still had to apply another 1-2 gloss clear before decal, another wait...

those CF above is from KA models, though the scale size is not very small, but it looks ok, coz the silver is actually darker shade, compare below CF from crazy modeler which a bit fake when zoom in

good job on the laying the Carbon Fiber looks good nice scath building on those parts maybe u could show up a pic of the part u where making for ref. but over all im really impressed with your work. great job

this is after 2000 wetsand, Autosol, Tamiya Coarse Compound, Fine & Finish, the metallic flakes makes the camera keep focusing on the flakes instead of the reflection :P

the seat, semi-gloss, kevlar decal, 2 layer gloss coat, wetsand and polish, mask and spray flat, then disaster struck, notice the left seat, some kevlar tear off when removing masking tape, i had to cut some kevlar decal from my Peugeot 307 wrc which luckily had 3 seat decals, but the color was slightly different, so i use smoke to level it, but now it looks terrible :banghead:

here is the rear wing painted in wrc blue, gloss coat, masked and spray black for the carbon fiber

trace the carbon fiber shape on masking tape, for duplication, i made a template on plastic-card, then transfer the template on back of CF decal, because its a symetrical design, u can do this, otherwise u'll only get opposite side

it crack before i even apply Softer, and crack even more after i apply softer, now i need to mix some fluorescent yellow and hopefully can touch up those crack lines, other part where decals sit on flat surface was ok

Your persistance is paying off in the end with the CF'ing! and the splitting of the brittle decals happened to me also,its the florescent decals that it only happens to aswell(hate it when that happens)

Great job so far, the paint is excellent. What really impresses me is the screw holes you put in the front air dam seem to be spaced and aligned perfectly.

more updates:

kinda sad update, thought i can do the decal better on the other side, but turn out to be a nightmare, there's a bubble, so i tried poke it & flatten it but some how the brittle decal didnt stick well and fell off creating a hole, i tried touch up but i mix the paint too thick, so i sand it and the worst i get, so i try paint florescent yellow on white decal & patch it, but the original decal were a bit translucent, thought of stripping the decal but that means another 1 month of wait, okay, enough talk, here's the pics

Replacement decal finally arrive yesterday from rainbowten, without any wait, i apply the decals, this time i sliced the complicated part into 2 pieces, decal didnt break or crack this time but i didnt manage to align perfectly, so i patch with extra decals, here is the result.

Great paint job.Did you clear over decals? Or decal then clear?

clear coat, then decal, but i will clear coat once more :)

Love that interior work, very nicely done.

Body Gloss Clear coat with 3 mist, then 2 wetcoat, with each layer lighty wetsand with 2000, so far no problem with the decals :) some places decal steps are completely flatten out, while some i think still need 2 layer of gloss coat, can't afford sanding through the decals right now.

Phil, the rear wing carbon was not really hard to do, but it do takes a long time tracing all the wing surface :p
