I have a 99' Oldsmobile Intrigue 3.5L Engine
Basically I burned all the oil and failed to add more or get an oil change
Currently my car is operational but i know its going to lock, it turns on it can go, i hear a
clicking/puttering noise from the engine whenever goin over 3k rpm, some mechanics said its damaged and needs to be swapped, i put a couple
quartz of oil but I don't think its taking it. I am currently not driving it, I didn't drive it a lot since
I started hearing the noise and figured out the issue. Anyway to fix this problem without swapping the engine? It still
runs but probably not for long :(

Welcome to AF. There is no way to predict what is wrong and how long it will last, run it till it dies, or gamble and put in another engine ( very expensive). What do you mean it is not taking it, add oil till the dipstick says it's full, 4-5 qts max.

Well I bought 2 quarts and just put it in, the dipstick wasn't readin any oil like i didn't put anything in, would there be a point to try to fill it up? will it somewhat fix the issue? Also i would run it till it dies but i dont feel like payin for a tow truck to take it to a shop =/, its sittin in front a shop right now, but i rly dont have the money to pay for a swap looker for a cheaper solution

Then there is no way to help you is there? Common sense says if 2 quarts doesn't show, add more, no?

It's likely ticking becuase you still have no oil in it. It makes me cringe to think you've revved it to 3k RPM with only 2 quarts...

I don't know how much damage you did, that depends on how long you ran it like this. It may run a few hundred miles, it may run thousands. But you need to put oil in it first. 2 quarts would barely cover the pan. The 3.5 needs 5-6 qts, which will cost you all of $14.

"The 3.5 needs 5-6 qts, which will cost you all of $14."

Or about $10 if you get the 5 quart jug from Walmart......

No excuse for running out of oil in this car esp. since the "low oil" light is right next to the speedometer.

yeah, the low oil light is a dead give-away. however, i have seen engines run right to the edge of death and be braught back to life with some fresh oil, so maybe you are a lucky one. Fill the oil so you can read it on the dip-stick, drive it to a shop and have the oil and filter changed (no doubt driving it with no oil to the point you did got some metal shavings contaminating the oil...) Without oil your engine is a hunk of welded-together metal. Its the lifeblood, do not neglect it.
