fuel sensor question

My gas gauge would not read below 3/4 full so I bought and installed a new sensor, now the gas gauge needle is stuck in the 3 o`clock position. I guess it could be a bad new sensor but maybe someone knows something else that could cause this problem. Thanks.

maybe it's the fuel float assembly itself...
