3rd post today! I've been neglecting the car, and now safety is becoming an issue, so here goes. The brakes work, but there's a terrible vibration when I step on the brakes at anything over 35mph. The shop I've been taking it to says I need new pads and rotors, and to bleed the entire system. All 4 wheels. Quote price is $1100. Sounds like a ridiculous price to me.

I plan on doing this one myself, but I was curious as to what other opinions are about that price.

Thanks again!

well i dont know what the american prices are but up here in canada, eh, good pads are bout $50-60 for the front and the same for the rear. good rotors, no more than $120 each. you can do a cheap brake job, pads like $25 for the front ans same for the back. i get cheap rotors for my 96 regal for like $26 each. but let me worn you, you get what you pay!

This sounds like a ridiculous quote to me. Research prices on rotors and pads and you should be able to do a 4 wheel brake job for less than $500. The hardest part of his job is getting the caliper mounts off. You will need a good ratchet at least 1/2 inch drive or an impact wrench to get them loose. This is the only way to get the bolts out.

When you bleed the brakes start with the brake furtherst away from the master cylinder and go around to the closest. Make absolutely sure to keep the master cylinder full of fluid or you will need to bleed the master cylinder and start all over. You can purchase one person bleeders for a couple of bucks or you can use the tubing and soda bottle trick. Either will work. Good Luck!

I did some research last night and here's what I found:

Autopartsgiant.com:
Raybestos Pro Grade Front = $24.99/ea
Raybestos Pro Grade Rear = $22.95/ea

Racepages.com:
Kool Vue Ceramic Front Pads = $16.30/set
Kool Vue Ceramic Rear Pads = $5.81/set

I've heard of Raybestos Brakes, but never this Kool Vue stuff. Price is right, though, and still ceramic pads. Anyone heard of Kool Vue, or used them? The shop quoted me $102.53 for the front pads, $107.56 for the front rotors. After looking at these website, I'm pretty certain I've got a "sucker" tatoo on my forehead.:loser:
