MSD Optispark, Contaminated

I have an MSD opti I put on my 95 formula a while back. I forgot what I was doing and washed the motor :crying:, so now the car has a mild power loss/vibration when accelerating. I tried to clean out the opti using both vent hoses and an air compressor. I also used some electronics cleaner that evaporates completely. I must have blown it out 12 times. I disconnected the coil so the fumes from the cleaner wouldn't detonate, and I spun the motor with the starter to rotate it between cleanings. This procedure didn't seem to make a difference, good or bad, so I plan to pull off the opti and clean it. Has anyone tried cleaning the MSD opti? If so, did it work? I don't know what to expect in there. If I remember right, the old OEM one was pretty basic inside. The only thing I can think of is that one or more of the points is gunked and maybe the optical sensor. Whoever designed the opti, and it's location, should have their butt removed.

Can't say I've heard of anyone trying it, let us know how it goes, to the better I hope :yikes:

Well, the car is my toy so I let it set for few weeks. Then I drove the car with the rough idle and poor response because I had no choice. I was sitting at a stoplight, and I heard the idle change to a healthier rhythm. It fixed itself! I guess the opti with it's better design and vented lines managed to clear itself out. Runs like a sumbitch now!
