My 89 gta 350 has had issues for quite some time ill run u thru. Its got 30 k miles everythings like new. Ive put 3 fuel pumps in since 89 dont kno why they jus seem to go. Recently with brand new pump still was surgin after i let off hard acceleration. Just didnt have its power..After all these years i put new fuel cap on it ran like new better than ever.. Now two weeks later all the sudden when u hammer it sounds like ur really movin but u can jus tell its holdin back. Then it hits second sooner than it should hits so hard spins tires jerks ur neck. From 2nd to third it dont shift til 5 grand but still not the power it should have. Tried yet another fuel cap nope not it. I have no ideas left please help..

is the ses light on, how dose the maf sensor look or dose it seem to "rev" good in park or neutral
also what about the fuel filter or look for a pinched fuel line

When i rev it still doesnt seem right. To the average person they may say it does but u kno ur own car. Not sure what ses is but theres no lights on no codes period. Everything on this car is like brand new never seen rain. Jus put fuel filter on along with new pump an sending unit. It acts like a clogged cat but there isnt one. Was told a canister under hood is some kinda vent for fuel to dont kno anything about it.

Jus messed with yhat canister up by headlight when i messed with one of the hoses fuel came outta the line. im thinkn it shouldnt.

normally fuel shouldnt come out of that line that is just to vent fumes as part of the emissions system dont know if thats the problem thow but cork it off and go for a drive see if it changes any thing

and just FYI ses = service engine soon\check engine or what ever light your car has it varys

Unhookd big line plugged it drove same. Unplugged it left it open drove got gas out of it quite a bit. i dont understand why im gettn gas period if its a vent line

did you filled it with gas recently

The day i put cap on filled it drove few hours. next time started it it was messed up. Then put gas in again since then.. Tryin to figure out if i have wrong gas cap all the parts stores say not vented but the original has a spring an some kinda metal ring in it. Im wonderin if the new nonvented cap has forced fuel to cannister but took a while to get there. But anyway why would i have got one good day outta it

i dont know about the cap as far as i know the canister is filled with charcoal to filter the hydrocarbons from the gas fumes rather than them going into the air (emissions control) now liquid fuel getting there usually is from "topping off the tank" too much

on another note what is the fuel pressure with the car running, not running also pull the vacuum line from the pressure regulator and see if it is wet inside the line

Ok i ordered an oem cap fuel pressure idles 60psi rev only drops to 50psi think thats good. i did take vacuum line off regulator the other day did seem a little moist in it. Does this mean regulators jakd up?

60 psi seems high usually a bad regulator would send fuel though the vacuum line if you tap the line on a piece of paper and the paper gets wet drops on it then i would suspect the regulator but i still dont know that this would cause your problems

60psi is WAY high.

so pressure reg would b possibility

Yeah, do as suggested and pull the vacuum line off and look for signs of fuel in the hose.

At this point I would expect either the regulator is faulty, improperly adjusted if a adjustable is installed, or the return line is obstructed or crimped.

I would minimize driving/running as much as possible until resolved as this is a dangerous situation.

Lastly, you will need to replace the charcoal canister, it was designed to hold fumes, not liquid.

I kno this may sound crazy but should i blow the line out from canister to tank with air. Im wondering if somehow the fuel cap was messed up an the fuel had nowhere to vent so thats why it made its way to canister. I really appreciate all the help. Im gonna try to put pics of this car on here u guys will love it..BRAND NEW...THANKS DAVE

So there wasn't any fuel in the regulator vacuum hose?

transgta
04-20-2009, 05:51 PM
Theres no fuel in regulator hose. Back to the aluminum vent line goin to canister after alum it goes rubber to a round like diaphram with like a bypass line off it then connects bak to main into canister. That line has fuel before the diaphram but not after so im thinkn it not really forced and is not making it to canister. One other thing ive noticed i put a cold air box down below forcing cool air up into tuned port. When u rev it that things sukkin harder than ever before. U can hear it suk along with see the airflow line move. Its been on there for yrs never done that either..

Sure it's (intake) not clogged? That would explain the excess fuel.

Thanks so much for all ur comments..GTA is fixed.First off the coolant temperature sensor was bad showing - 40 degrees it had computer jakd up tryin to compensate. After that my cold air pikup from underneath the airline had collapsed..No air gettin to intake..I swear this car feels like its runnin on nos all the time. New tires wont last long..Thanks again DAVE
