Hello
my son has a 91 saturn sc dohc .61k on motor 70k on tranny
and it has developed a bad miss quick run down i can pull plug wire 1 while its runing and it doesnt change the way its running at all..all the others will bog the engine down.oil was getting into the plug wells also.1st things 1st took it too the mech and he done a compression test and all was good(didnt get numbes).said just needed tune up so new plugs new wires fuel filter air filter new valve cover gasket.and still missing tested connectors on fuel injectors checked coil packs good frustrated at this point took it to another mech (both mechanics are ASE by the way so not backyard)..again compression test good fuel injector wires good coils good..however at some point he didnt say what for sure he was checking but said while he was pulling the wires(same thing i did) the car died and would not restart something about quad driver kept resetting???after about an hour it will start but if it dies its done for about another hour.now he says something wrong with computer..(funny i never had abit of problems pulling plug wires)..So with that said can any give me any suggestions on what to do he really needs his car and none of the mechs here seem to know whats wrong today i dissconected the battery awile it will start and run now but still missing and get codes 26(have had this one forever could be because the passive restraints motors not working)and 45

"ASE certified" is simply a marketing tool. It doesn't mean they know everything. Don't let them pass this off as a bad computer. I've never heard of a Saturn PCM going bad. Simply because of the fact that they could not explain why the car was dieing tells me they aren't really up to the task of fixing it. After it dies and won't restart, the first thing I would do is check for spark. If no spark, I would strongly suspect that the crank position sensor is intermittently failing.

I've never heard of a Saturn PCM going bad.

I have one from about a year ago. The first one I have ever seen myself. The problem was there was no signal from the PCM to the module to trigger the 1/4 coil. In fact I still have it on my cart. I thought it was a dead coil but after replacing and not fixing I figured something odd was up. I checked signals at the modules with a lab scope and sure enough that one was missing. Went to the PCM and backprobed the same wire and still nothing.

Although a lot of things are unlikely, nothing is impossible!
