I follow your build closely.
I already have this kit (don't tell to anyone, :nono: because I'm great Ferrari fan :p)!!, and I want to build it some time...
Did you use the Tamiya decals (with blue parts), or you going to use an after market set and paint yourself the blue areas?
Good luck..

I'll purchase Zero paints Williams FW F1 sets to paint for all the body color, since this was a year 1992 product, i dont trusted on the qulity of decal anymore, can't risk it.

Dear, you said u are ferreri fan. do u got 641/2 kit urself? cuz after finishing this FW14B, i will continoue to build the 641/2 followed by MP4/6 kit. Those would be built as a complete series for the good old F1 cacing cars

Yes of course my friend. I build it fourteen years earlier... strait of the box.
As you see in this photo from my case.

After several models I hold :nono:the modeling to improve my working career...
Now I started again.:) I 'm going to build the 1/12 Williams, Mclaren and an improved version of Ferrari 641.
For now I build some of my 1/24 Ferrari's like...
Ferrari 275 GTB Nart Spyder (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=936520)
WIP Testarossa's Meeting (Ferrari Testarossa '84, 512TR and Mythos) (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=948319)

If ask me, I am from Greece. Polemiki aeroporia means Hellenic Air Force (http://www.haf.gr/en/). If you mean that. Where you see it? In f-4E and F-16C decals?

My friend btdada it's not a bad idea. I purchache one (I don't have it to my stock) and I will accept it. Wait for news and updates.

Here's little update, glad i can squeeze some time to get progess.

Now it comes with assemble the rear suspension arm, all made from white metal. I sand them and primed with Mr Metal Primer. Painted with Finisher's Semi-gloss black.

However, as expected, Mr Metal Primer simply dont work. Basecoat painting was stirpted easily after masking. I'll leave them, since only part of the arms, and let it resemble the weathering effects.

Now the pictures, enjoy.

Wow, stunning work, im gonna have to follow this one, ive been tossing up buying the McLaren or the Williams F1s in the 1:12 scale range, brought the 935 Porsche instead, but still considering the F1s... Ive never built a 1:12, but the detail is amazing, yours looks stunning, esp the Carbon fibre.
Cant wait to see more!!

I've done with most of the monocoque, but not until I paint it with ZERO 2K, the front suspension set can be put on.

http://btdada.simpload.com/RIMG0044.JPG

Open holes for CracyModel 1mm and 1.2mm screw set, there are 21 screw needed to be add as detail on the main body cover, I've bought 2 set of them, so should be enought for the whole kit including front and rear spoiler.

http://btdada.simpload.com/RIMG0046.JPG

body was painted inside with semi-gloss black
http://btdada.simpload.com/RIMG0048.JPG

then masked inside for further painting,

I also add some weight to the monocoque by using 5g and 10g lead block and strenghen them with epoxy putty. I didnt have it full filled, cuz the weight has exceed 500g already, the front and rear suspension may not be able to support all the weight..

May I ask why you added weight to the model?

...the reason is, sorry for my vanity, these kits probably will be someday given as a present. So I really wish when that lucky guy lift it over, wont express pity on his face just becasue the whole kit is made of plastic. At least by adding some weight will give this kit some metal feel

so youre saying that the CF isnt decal OR gunmetal airbrushed over a mesh?:screwy:
could you please please make a simple tutorial on how to make that effect... thx!!

btdada
05-10-2009, 10:18 AM
this CF effect was based on kit's original texture on its surface. First airbrush Nitro-lacquer semi-gloss black. Here i used Finisher's paints. After it dried, brush with enamel gun-metal. then remove enamel paints on edges of texture by using cotton swabls with ZIPPO oil.

Here's some updates for this weekend

Blue area on the body was original designed to use decals...whose color have siginificent different with my paints. So i have to abandon them and paint the area with decal shape.

So mask according to decal size, patience needed
http://btdada.simpload.com/RIMG0070(1).JPG

http://btdada.simpload.com/RIMG0072.JPG

done, the result is quite satisfactory. however masking egdes are not as sharpe as i expected. however not quite noticable, so I decide not to bother with it

For a 1/12 model, could say I am satisfied with its details. But the fittness and casting is pin-point and damn accurate. I would only expect more on the engine wireing and, if possible, a white-metal chassis. Because I really start to worry if the thin plastic chassis can support all the weight added on.

Hi,guys after been a busy week, luckily I can squeeze some time to get progress,

apply some technique used before, I finished two sides of monocoque.
http://btdada.simpload.com/RIMG0086.JPG

And some electical device boxes. they all need carefull masking to get the right rdetails. still need put decals on and some weatherings.

I am waiting for 2PACK CLEAR from ZERO PAINTS, so to start decalling the main body. I wont be able to assemble suspensions and many parts, until finish clear coat the monocoque

Clear applied today, zero 2 PACK CLEAR is great! but unfortunately, some red stript decal appled yesterday was not properly glued, so part of them was blowed up during airbrushing. So I have to manually lay them down agian, this left some uneven and bubbled stripts...

NO, this is nothing to do with the quality of Zero paints 2K coat. The reason causing this is either the decal is not properly sitck to the paint coat by the age of decal or the decal is not properly dried left with water/decal setter/decal softer underneath

once clear is on, this is not a repairable situation. after you sand the clear coat, which for me, is a must do stage, you will sand out the convex part of the bubble, shame. but its OK... it will look like weathering effect any way.

btdada
06-07-2009, 03:36 AM
Big step today, I've finally the main body. ZP 2K clear is fantasitic staff, but you really need some hard work to sand it. I used #6000, #8000 and #12000 micromesh followed with Finisher's Micro Wax and finalise with Tamiya liquid wax. The result is satisfacoty consider my fisrt time using Zero 2K Clear. Also some HobbyDesign mini crews were added on to grant some more details.

Monocoque decaled and applied with Zero 2K clear, not much difficulty this time. but to mention here, to get best result for Zero 2K, dont mix it with ratio 10:5:1.5,which is suggested on instruction manual. The correct ratio for using 0.3mm airbrush is 2:1:1. plus, leave the mixture for a while after you mix them, so all bubble formed during mixing stage can pass away peacefully .... those bubbles will causing you hidious trouble when apply 2K clear.

What happened to the "N" from Canon on the left sidepod? Looks like the decal got damaged during sanding/polishing?!

Otherwise, great shine and finish on your model. It looks very convincing!

Yes, I over-sand the surface with 600grid sand paper. The Zero 2K clear is way too tough to sand after curing.
