Possible bad or carboned up egr, idle air control, tps out of whack, all these things need to be checked and possibly a full scan.

I have a 98 305 cheyenne that I just put a new engine in. I have trouble with it starting. Once you get it started and take it down the road it will shut down 2 or 3 times within a half mile and then has a hard time starting again. checked fuel pressure, timing, changed all plugs and wires, new distributor and also changed ground strap.
I am also stuck with this one and very aggravated.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I have an 88 Cheyenne. As a previous post indicated check the IAC value for carbon buildup as well as the EGR value for carbon build-up. On my truck both of these were carboned up badly, although I have an excess of 140,000 miles on it. However I would check the simple stuff first, Spark plugs, air filter, gas filter etc.

Well I finally got the truck running, after months of trying to figure out what was wrong, I went ahead and took it to a mechanic. He said my distributor was bad and the starter was going out. So I took the truck home and fixed all that and also replaced the battery because it wasnt holding a charge. So far, running great (knock on wood)! Before taking it to the mechanic I had replaced the IAC, EIC, Fuel pump and throttle body gasket.
