the fuel filter if you have one will be on the inside of the frame rail in the middle of the cab area on the driverside....

I think your vehicle may have the inside the fuel tank filter only...2004/5 they began this ...

Also avoid using a 13/16" wrench on the fuel filter and use a 20mm wrench instead. The 20mm fits better and Cornwell tools does sell a special line wrench this is a 20mm for GM fuel filters

this is confirmed w/ a 2004 avalanche... i was doing an oil change and lube grease fittings... so i followed the fuel lines to the plastic gas tank... ugh what were they thinking!?!:headshake

i'd rather have an inline filter outside the tank as you mentioned above, than one inside the tank:loser:

There is a reason why they did this,no one changes the fuel filter and GM is not the only that has done this,Chrysler was the first to do it.

how about a screw on fuel filter where you can get at it !

where? i followed the lines from the engine down to the inside framerail... all are connected w/ quick-connects, also made from plastic (yuk: will become brittle over time )

edit: oh you mean an aftermarket screw-on inline filter?

as far as i followed the fuel lines, there's no outside inline filter installed on these vehicles :(

yes, i also noticed my wife's acura mdx & other late model hondas also did away w/ an external inline filter! all of them had incorporated them inside the fuelpump/intank setup! GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!

i make it a point of changing out my fuel filters every 2 years/ ~30,000 miles in my older vehicles cause i did have a restriction after 42K miles on a nissan at one time & that was the reason.

partly my fault because i was running it down to EMPTY most of the time when the gas prices were outrageous a few years ago... and sucking up the sediment on the bottom of the tank, prematurely clogging the fuel filter...

the cost to drivearound with the fuel tank nearly empty will cost you more in the end.....

the cost to drive your vehicle is based on miles driven ,,,not on how much fuel is in the tank.

other than the obvious reasons of possibly causing an obstruction to your fuel injectors/filter...

i know that now, because the fuel in the tank also acts as a COOLANT for the in-tank fuel pump! you risk overheating/shortening the fuel pump's life if you don't keep at least 1/4 tank in there...

that's why i have no idea of their reasoning to displace such a useful filter for easy periodic maintenance

the 2nd part to your quote i omitted, cause i don't understand it

there are those vehicle owners that believe,,, operating the vehicle with a very low fuel level gives the best fuel MPG....
