Passlock???

I stumbled across this forum while looking for some info on how to fix my cars security system. I have a 2002 Saturn SL2 with 105 thousand miles. The security system(passlock) stopped working at about 90 thousand miles. I had no problems with turning over ect, untell this last summer. I parked my car, did my buisness went to start her up and she wouldn't crank over. The fuel guage read empty, security light flashed then stayed on, service light (the hand with the wrench) stayed on. Since I only had a quarter of a tank of gas thought maybe that was the problem. Got some gas put it in still the same thing would not cranck over after 2 hours of trying to trouble shoot in this parking lot I finally was ready to give up and catch the bus. One last time turn the key and she fired right up. Didn't have any problems untell about 6mos later. My fiance starts the car warms it up heads down the drive way and the car dies. Cranck, cranck, cranck same thing fuel reads empty, security light on, service light on and again quarter tank of gas. Get some gas put it in nothing. So we tow the car back up the drive and she fires right up. We're thinking ???? After that the car is fine starts right up every time. 4 days ago the dam thing left me and my 2 little girls stranded again. Same thing Just will not start. My fiance and I get back to the car and he switches the fuel relay with the blower relay (via a 20 yr mec advice) fires right up. So he buys a new relay car seems to be fine now but the security system still is not working. And I am hesitant about taking the car anywhere for not wanting to be stranded for hours again. So I guess my question is can some one tell me is it Fuel related or has to do with the Passlock system?:uhoh:

A fault in the fuel system should not cause the starter to not turn over. So it is like you say more likely the security system.

I'm not even sure which security system is in my wifes nissan, maybe someone can elaborate. It is a 95 nissan sentra with the 1.6 liter dohc.

But she had her car for about a year, bought used and didn't have the little thing with buttons on the key ring. All of a sudden one day she goes to open the door, a horn starts going off(not the regular car horn, a separate one for the security system, lights start flashing, she tried to see if getting in and turning the key would fix the problem, it didn't. We unhooked the battery, waited, hooked it back up, still everything going off. I finally said f this sht. Took out every relay that said security out. All sounds and flashing stopped. Got in car, turned key to on, seemed normal, but like when she tried and put in start, nothing. So I then just got some 10 guage wire, wired it up under the dash with the wire that was hot with the key in start. Ran the other end out the firewall down to the starter solenoid on the starter. Been about 3 years later haven't had a problem since.

Im sorry I dont have any clue to as to how to fix the problem - but would very much like it if anyone could tell me how to kill/bypass the security system in my daughter's 98 Saturn SL2. Permanently.

I may have already did if we have the same type security system, mine is bypassed permanently. What is yours doing again, you said it wouldn't start. Does the fuel pump come on when the key is on? Any of the guages?

Yours may be just like mine and will only stop the starter from working with all the anti-theft relays out.

Yours may be completely different though. I thought with Passlock??? you were asking if it was passlock but then I read your post again and you said it was. I have been seeing another thread with the word passlock in it and it has a lot of replies, just search for passlock and look for that thread I'm sure you will find some usefull infromation.

This is for a Chevy Mailbu....NOT a Saturn 3rd gen S-series.

In the 3rd gen, the passlock feature is embedded into the BCM, a seperate module from the PCM. While the key is in the RUN position the BCM gives a code to the PCM. If it does not match the car will A) not start or B) Start then die with in 3 seconds. Many times a relearn of the passlock codes is sufficient. However the BCM has been known to go bad. Here is how to reset the passlock on the third generation:

"NOTE: DO NOT REMOVE THE KEY DURING THIS AT ALL, or you will have to start the procedure over from the beginning.

1) Press the clutch pedal in like your going to start the car (if you did this during the swap)
2) Put the key in the ignition and turn it to CRANK
3) The car will try to start and then die
4) Leave the key in the RUN position as if the car started
5) You will notice on your dash that the "SECURITY" light is now on
6) Now wait approx. 10 minutes until the SECURITY light goes out (you wait on the light not the time)
7) When the light goes out turn the key from RUN to the OFF position (keep the key in the ignition) for 5 seconds
8) Repeat steps 1-7 two more times for a total of 3 cycles (30 minutes).
9) When you completed the third cycle you should have the key in the OFF position (per step 7)
NOTE: On the next ignition cycle the car will actually learn the passcode from the BCM
10) Push the clutch pedal in and now really start the car and it should start right up and run

That's all there is to it. A half hour and you're new PCM will be running your car." - SF

Thanks for correcting me on that I didn't know I figured same system would work same on other vehicle.
