Cooling fans running constant

I have a 93 z28. Recently while driving I noticed that the primary radiator fan runs constantly with the ac fan coming on about every 30 seconds as well. The car is not overheating. In fact it takes forever to reach operating temperature due to this. Could it be the radiator fan switch? If so, where is it located? Any help would be greatly appreciated.:banghead:

My Firebird did that same thing to me once and it was the thermostat that had gone bad. I would start there since its a cheap part and it never hurts to be replaced with a new one anyways. :2cents:

Most vehicles I have worked on the cooling fan relay is controlled by the ecm, which gets its data from the coolant temperature sensor. The relay has normally open contacts. The temperature in the vehicle gets to hot, the computer then sends power to the coil in the relay, the contacts close, then your radiator fan comes on. So the problem with your fan coming on is probably the coolant temperature sensor. The reason for the guage working correctly though is because the engine probably has a separate coolant temperature sending unit, which controls just your guage on your dash.

Not trying to imply the other user maybe wrong. But yes he probably had his fan coming on, due to his thermostat not opening and engine getting hot. Your problem is it coming on right away, even when the engine is cool. The thermostat just opens and closes allowing water to flow, there is no electrical connections to your thermostat, it can't directly control your radiator fan.

The switch for the primary fan should be located in the passenger side head..They took control away from the ECM on the LT1 engines and used a thermal switch screwed into the Rh head.

Sounds right to me, that's what you are looking for.
