Glowing Exhaust Manifolds?jessiebighamKC 03-23-2009, 01:10 AM Does anyone know why my exhaust manifold's are glowing? I had a clogged cat converter and I cut it off and had a piece of pipe welded in for now. Just till I get up the money to be able to get a whole new exhaust. Also what is the stock plug? Ive been putting Autolite Copper Core Plugs 606's in it. Im thinking about going back to stock plugs and see where that puts my exhaust manifolds. GTP Dad 03-23-2009, 08:02 PM Glowing exhaust manifolds usually indicates a rich condition. If you cut the cat off and are running with the second O2 sensor that may be causing the problem. If you use an O2 simulator it may cure the problem but I would check it out ASAP and make sure you don't have any restrictions in the exhaust system that is causing too much back pressure. As for the plugs you shouldn't have any issues unless they are fouled and not firing properly. tblake 03-23-2009, 10:32 PM GTP-dad, if I remember right, he was having his issue with glowing exhaust manifolds back before he cut his cat out. At the same time he was getting a code for ignition related issues. Jessie have you resolved the ICM DTC's that were stored in the PCM? I'd be willing to bet once those are resolved that your issues end. Have you hooked your car up to a scanner that can read live data streams? Watch your KR. If your car has KR, you will get combustion happening in the exhaust manifolds. Do you have any Mods? autolite 606's are the stock temp plug,(which may be too hot if you have mods) BNaylor 03-24-2009, 01:15 PM GTP-dad, if I remember right, he was having his issue with glowing exhaust manifolds back before he cut his cat out. At the same time he was getting a code for ignition related issues. That is correct Tim. See link to the other thread which may shed some light. If not resolved the IC and Bypass Ignition codes are troubling since ignition timing may be affected. Plus pull the spark plugs and see what they look like or do a read on them. GTP Dad 03-24-2009, 07:53 PM OOPS! Must have missed that one! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
