01 1500 5.9L Won't start on first crank.andercee 03-22-2009, 02:57 PM My 2001 1500 SLT hardly ever starts on the first crank. But it will always start on the second. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so how they resolved it. Other than that everything seems fine but I feel like I'm burning through the starter twice as fast as normal. Thanks a lot. angus10 03-24-2009, 05:02 AM check the fuel pressure with a gauge. Sounds like the pressure regulator is bad. Hook the gauge up and turn the key to on, the pressure should go up to like 49lbs. Turn the key off and watch the pressure, it should stay there + or - a couple lbs. If it drops rapidly in 15 minutes or so, the regulator is most likely shot. andercee 04-25-2009, 08:31 PM No fix yet. But prior to start I have been turning the key half way to let the fuel pump do its thing. I still have to crank it a little more than normal though. I'd say that its between 1.5-2 times the normal starting duration to get it to run. 2000ram37 07-31-2009, 10:43 PM Fuel pump (pressure regulator). Press in on the schrader valve on the fuel line right by the fuel rail after it sits overnight. If pressure is none or weak its bleeding off. Mine did the exact same thing about 8 months ago. Taking the bed off is alot easier than I thought it would be. Doing it myself saved about $500 Shpuker 08-04-2009, 01:48 AM My dads truck has the same problem but theres 2 differences, 1 its a 2005 and 2 its had the problem since the day he bought it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
