i recently purchase an 82 camaro with the 2.8 v6 and a 4spd tranny.
i had replace the fule pump and it ran very good for awhile but now whenever i start it it idles very high and stays high making the car undriveable. it is the 2.8 with a carburetor and i don't know much about what would cause a high idle problem so any help would be alot of help.

thanks

Clean the throttle blade pivot points of the carb thuroughly, if it's sat a while prior to purchase, it's probably 'gummed up' and stickiing. The same applies to all moving part of the cab linkage.

the weather finally was good enough to work on it. i tried cleaning the the carb and didnt help.
also i notice the valve on the carb opens wide open as soon as you start the car but if you hold it halfway it idles fine.
i dont know anything about carbs so i was wondering if someone could explain to me why the valve opens wide open by itself and how to fix it.

no sure if you call it a valve so if you dont understand what im talking about then i have video on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q9TkdSCB6o is the link. like i said i dont know what you call it but it looks like a valve.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

have you looked inside the carb to see if the throttle blades are actually open this would be good info to have if they are not opened you have a hell of a vacuum leak if they are open can you manually close them with the throttle linkage

ya the throttle blades open wide open when you start the car. i can get it to idle right when i hold the blades half closed with the throttle linkage but as soon as i let get it opens back up.

the blades you are closing are not the actual throttle blades that is the choke if the actual throttle blades are open then there is a solenoid to kick up the idle when the ac is on it should have a plunger that pushes the throttle linkage unplug it this could be your problem

The primary (front) choke blade should be shut on cold start, to do so tap the accelerator once to reset.
