Grand Prix stubborn hub/bearings.72mino 03-18-2009, 04:09 PM I'm attempting to replace the front wheel bearings on my cousins 2000 Grand Prix, base model. I've removed the wheel, caliper & bracket, rotor, axle nut, and the 3 bolts that hold on the hub/bearing assembly. I've sprayed it down with PB Blaster 4 times throughout all of this I think, whaled on it with my 2 lb sledge (head flew off the handle), got an 8in 3 jaw puller (over tightened it and broke it), got another puller tightened it, but not too much, beat on it with my dad's 10lb sledge, heated up the splines with a torch, beat on it some more, re-tightened it (made some progress?) beat on it more and broke the threaded shaft on the puller. Any other ideas:confused: 72mino 03-18-2009, 05:54 PM I rented a FWD hub puller and slide hammer from Oreilly's and all it is doing is pulling the CV joint apart. tblake 03-18-2009, 06:09 PM Put the axel nut on a few turns and beat the axel straightin on the center of the nut untill you see it pop in. It will sort of slide in due to the plunge joint. Then about all you can do is get a chisel and beat on it where the hub meets the steering knuckle. They are a beee itch somethimes, but they will come. Check the tips and maintenance subforum, a member put together a great writeup on what he had to do to get it off. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
