do i need to pull the axles to change the rear brake pads on a 2001 express 2500?

on my old 1996 g30, the shop charged us an arm and a leg to do a brake job on the rears because they said the axles had to come out because the drums and axles were 1 piece.

on the fronts do i need any special tools to get the calipers off? my old '96 had an odd set up, but i was able to get er done.

its only a standard van, not a dually, the old g30 was not a dually either.

Pull hub cap and wheel off.

Does the axle have any bolts holding it in?
If so then have a look and see if drum will come off of hub without removing axle and hub.

Good Luck
