was curious if it would be feasable to swap out the current 4.3 v6 for a carburated non computer controled engine and tranny? i have a friend who built a 350 and turbo 350 tranny but never used them. i was thinking about buying it and putting it in my '01 van.

i assume it would fit but i dont know about the computer stuff. my state does not do emmisions checks, but would that hold me back?

any info you can provide would be appreciated. thanks

If might fit if you do some changing work at it.

It would be illegal.
IF.!!!!

If you operate it on a federal funded highway you are subject to EPA 1990 clean air act sections 203 and 205.

Also insurance and lisence and title reg. would need changed.

so, what would i need to do to swap to a v8? or is it not possible with all the epa laws.

Front springs and tires and brakes and rad and exhaust for V8.
And also transmission because of computer controls.

But even after all of that you will still be illegal to operate it on a federal funded highway.

ty for the info.

i just thought i'd be able to help out a friend and buy his engine he wasn't using. but it sounds like a v8 swap is too much trouble unless the van had originally came with a v8.

i suppose if the current engine ever gives up the ghost i'll just get a rebuild on the 4.3 rather than a v8 swap. really its not a lack of power, the 4.3 vortec has plenty of power for my needs. heck going off my seat of the pants dyno, it seems to have more power than my old 1996 g30 with a 350 in it. probably has more to do with the gearing than anything though.
