My 2001 Rodeo has a leak from the accumulator piston cover. Someone on here (can't remember who,sorry) posted that it could be changed without going to a mechanic. He stated it would be difficult, but it could be done.
I went to a mechanic on Friday and he said that he would have to "drop" the transmission.
I told him that I heard on a forum that it could be done without dropping it. He acted as if he didn't believe me. (Just wants my money?)
I have a neighbor who works on cars and is very mechanically inclined. Would he be able to change out the parts? I know it would be up to him if he thinks he could do it. But can it really be done without dropping the transmission? Thanks.

Yes. No need to drop the tranny. Remove the snap ring. You'll need a new one. Pull the cover out. Starting the truck briefly may help push it out. Recover the spring behind the cover. Install the new cover and snap ring. You'll have to push the cover in using a socket and prybar to get the snap ring in and out. I haven't done it, but I have seen it done on these forums. Search it up.
