1995 GMC Sierra 1500 5.7L Shift Cable?

Is it just me or is this part just impossible to find? Called 3 junk yards, two said don't have it, one said can look but would be tomorrow, called parts stores

NAPA - Don't got it, can't get it
O'Reilly - Don't got it, no warehouses have it, could send email but probably a week before can get it.
Auto Zone - $134.99, have to order it
Advanced Auto - Don't have it, can't order it, can't find it, whats a shift cable?


You would think, for such a common truck, thats pretty much interchangeable with Chevy, you could find a shift cable that would work...

Heres my next question though, haven't gone outside to look at it again since it was EXTREMELY cold this morning when this all happened, but heres the story behind this..

Got in the truck this morning, started it up and let it warm up a bit, went to shift into reverse and couldn't pull the gear shifter down. Puzzled, I checked to see if it was the shift lock keeping me from shifting, nope, wasn't that. Turned off the truck, started it back up, moved the wheel around a bit, tried to shift again, nothing.

Pulled a little bit harder on it and it went straight to first gear, I knew something was wrong at that point, hoped it wasn't transmission. Tried to shift it back up into reverse, it slammed into park again. Pulled it down lighter and managed to muscle it into reverse.

Pulled out of the driveway and managed to get it to jump into 3rd gear, messed with it until it moved into drive.

(I wouldn't have even continued but I was about 80 miles from home at this point)

Started down the road and stopped at the gas station, went into park just fine. Figured I'd let it warm up some more and went into the store, came out and noticed a low tire, got truck into reverse and back into drive to pull up to air pump on side of building, put air in, couldn't get it into reverse.

Tried and tried, finally it jumped into 1st, then pushing it back up it jumped to neutral and the shift lever got limp....I knew it was broke.

I put the emergency brake on, crawled under the truck and moved the shift lever manually to put it back in drive, had to drive through some ladies back yard (after asking *phew*) to get back onto the road without going in reverse, floored it all the way back home.

When I got back Home, I put the gear shifter in the park position, and noticed it bumped it back into Neutral, so I'm wondering maybe there is just maybe an adjustment somewhere that got loose or slid around that can be fixed?





tl;dr, is there an adjustment in the cable somewhere to adjust what gear its in when the shifter is in a certain position?

Just checked everywhere, nobody has that part...what...did everybody's cable just decide to break at the same time?
