'90 Buick Regal. Tech 1 scan tool question for the pros.kpeters0929 03-09-2009, 09:20 PM Hello, I have a '90 Buick Regal custom 3.1 L. Just did a recent tuneup, and changed out a few sensors. I have the GM service manual and it states, "Any time the battery is disconnected, the programmed position of the IAC valve pintle is lost, and replaced with a default value. To return the IAC valve pintle to the correct position, perform the folling procedure. Connect TECH 1 Scan tool. Select IAC system then select idle learn in the misc. test mode. " My question to you guys is if their is a different way to do this? After i reconnected the battery i usually turn the key to the "ON" position for 5 seconds, then "off" for 10 seconds. Then start the car up while cold and let it sit for a few minutes (without touching the gas pedal.) The car does seem to idle decent, but if i can get it even better that would be great. I looked on ebay to find a used scan tool but noticed they sell in the $500+ range. I'm not sure if it's worth me buying it since i would only use it once and awhile. I do disconnect the battery here and there though... anytime i work under the hood or with sensors/wiring. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would help a lot!
