carb identification

Trying to id the carb in my wife's 1978 Delta 88 Royale, 350. There is an 'R' in the VIN and it's not a Calif model. Looking at the back of the carb I see what looks like a plate with a bunch of hash marks on it. The top three rows have some indentations puched into it. According to what I can see in the 78 Olds Service Manual it looks like an M4MC but I'd like to be really positive.

Any advice would be appreciated

Chris

Google Rochester Quadrajet id numbers. There should be an ID on the l/s side of the main body. There are sites that with that id, will tell you what's what.

Found the numbers, 17058253 which according to what I googled was mfg in 1978 for non-calif, Olds division however the last number being odd according to the specs I'm reading is for a manual transmission and this is on an automatic. I'll have to take another look again tomorrow night maybe put fresh batteries in my flashlight and try to crawl closer with my magnifying glass and see if the 3 might not be a 2. Now to interpert the vacuum lines drawing in my manual, but that will be for another thread if I get totally lost.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Be aware that the last digit is not always reliable to ID a manual trans or automatic trans.
