Well, I foolishly thought that if I work on three models at once it would be faster - I had the bright idea that I could always be doing something, while paint dried etc. :screwy: Hasn't quite worked out that way! :banghead: And given that I tend to forget to take in progress photos of models, I had not intended to do WIP threads for them.

However, after many weeks of careful preparation, this afternoon I unveiled what, to me, is my most satisfying piece of masking/painting on any model - on the R32, details below. So I decided to to a WIP thread so you can all slap me on the back and tell me what a wonderful job I have done! :grinyes: Kidding!

Anyway, on with the models ...

The first Skyline is the 1992 Bathurst winning car. As many of you know, this is the car that changed forever touring car racing in Australia - I choose not to air my opinion of that decision . Below are a couple of reference photos taken from a DVD Bathurst series.

On the way to victory:

And the way it "ended" the race, leading to one of the most memorable winner's speeches by Gentlemen Jim :

I am using a set of Roodecals for the appropriate markings, and starting with the Calsonic GT-R kit as this gives the closest match for wheels of the Tamiya R32 series:
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s287/tinytintops/Nissan%20R32%20GT-R%20Bathurst%201992/R32GTR92Bathurst03.jpg

I am furthest along with this GT-R, with the chassis and interior finished. The body is now ready for decals and detail painting. I decided to paint the white and yellow areas, as from my reference photos it appeared that the decals for these areas were slightly wrong, and I also feared for their ability to cover the bright red paint. I also decided that decalling the Nismo vents on the front bumper would have been impossible.

The second model is an OOB build of Tamiya's R33 GT-R from the JGTC in Calsonic livery.

Most of the parts are currently painted, and ready for assembly. Chassis is done (my first use of cigarette foil as heat shield), interior is next. The body is ready for the decals. A great kit.

The last kit is the most involved, and therefore the least completed. My idea for this is a factory backed entry from Nissan and Nismo in the annual Targa Tasmania. For those of you unfamiliar with it, Targa Tasmania is a tarmac rally for historic and modern sportscars. The basic livery will be inspired by the 80's Nissan race cars (below), with decals from parts bin and homemade.

I am starting with one of the (many) Aoshima Nismo kits. I have removed the rear seat, and will scratch build a roll-cage. The detail painting of the chassis is almost done, and the base white colour of the body is finished.

And lastly, a teaser of the R34 in storage with Helen's latest wip.

More updates of all three to follow - hopefully regularly!

Good work. Three Skylines looks really good.

I have four R32 projects waiting in shelves, so I will follow Windfield version with so many interest.

It's not very common see projects about R32 Gr.A. I'm waiting for more updates.

I cannot wait to see the finished versions of all these cars - the Winfield car (my all-time favourite race car), the Calsonic R33 and the 'fantasy' R34 Nismo in heritage Nissan Motorsport livery. I will be following this build with great interest.

If you need any reference pics of the Winfield car, please let me know.

Thanks for the positive comments.

ajrichar - Thankyou for the offer of reference pics. However I have sourced a decent number from the internet, and have the DVD series of Bathurst highlights which gives good coverage of the Skyline in 1992 - wonder why? Then, just as I was about to start the project I found an Australian Motor Racing Year Book from 1992 at a market for $4 - bargain!

Cheers,
Grant.
