I am a new owner of a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo and I'm trying to find out how many gallons of gas does my car take.I can not find out how big the gas tank is. Can someone Please tell me. How many gallons of gas will my Rodeo hold?

I once was really sweating running out of gas (on fumes) and put in 17 gallons once!

2001 Rodeo holds 20 gallons. Rodeo Sport holds 17.7 gallons.

I have 2001 Rodeo LS -- I would believe 17.7 -- not 20.

20 is what AllData says. Most cars are built with a litte extra capacity that doesn't show up on the fuel gauge. So when you show empty, you actually still have a few gallons left.

I pulled out my manual! It holds 19.5 gallons! (Probaly more with the pipe from the tank to the fill cap). I'm shocked -- all that "sweating" for nothing when I thought I was running on fumes. The manual says that when the needle hits "Empty" -- you have 3.2 gallons left. Thanks, Fuzz!

DO NOT run the tank till its empty. Never let it get below 1/4 tank. The fuel pump needs to sit in the fuel to cool it and letting it run below 1/4 tank very often will burn it up. Its not cheap to get a fuel pump replaced on these.

With all due respect, I don't buy this theory. The pump is cooled by the fuel running though it. Not by being surrounded by fuel.

All the heat of the motor is around the outside of the pump.

You can ask the mechanics where I work why they were constantly changing pumps on our service vans until the order came out that you cannot let the tank get below 1/4 and if your pump burns out and its proven you let the tank get below 1/4 you'd be written up. In the 4 yrs since they've replaced 2 pumps. Not sure why its american brand pumps that do it and not japanese ones. 8 or 9 out of 10 fuel pumps replaced are "american" according to all the mechanics I know.

Does the fuel gauge "re-calculate" after a fill-up? I usually re-fill the gas tank to full (around 14.9 gallons). If I go a little longer (say, I need to re-fill with 16 gallons) -- it seems that the gauge will take longer to reach "Empty" on the next drive cycle. (Does that make any sense? -LOL)
