1:12 Tamiya Jagermeister 934 Turbo RSR

I am a great fan of Porsches, and as there seen to be a few on the go at the moment, I thought I would add to it. I was going to do this with the SMS detail set, but on looking into it, there were so many bits that were differant from the 935, even the wheels, so I will keep it and use it on a 935 sometime. So this kit will be an out the box build, nothing like Robs build!!! This has to be one of my favorite kits, had it for many years, eventually dug it out and made a start on it. this is the original kit, 1977

Started with the seat, thanks to Eric Cole for the technique for the fibreglass, on the front I used Microballoons for the cloth effect.

Cool... (and thanks for the Kudos on the fiberglass technique, yours looks great)

I'm working on this same kit right now for a Kit Review article for one of the model magazines. I'm using the re-release version with PE and it's being built out of the box, and as a street version (or non-raced version without and livery), which I think is a cool.

I have a second 934 re-release and SMS Detail set that will be built as the Jagermeister car for my own collection. I'll use the 935 "only" parts from the SMS set like the wheels to replace the wheels on my already built 935 Martini car.

I'm looking forward to watching your progress.

Cool and the gang dude!!!! I'm trying to create the decals to make the Brumos version of this car.
Seat looks very nice, I like the colour you've used on the back of it. keep the posts rolling in!

A few more photos, I started this a couple of weeks ago, so will get up to date with the photos when I sort through them, the painting of the bodywork took forever, it is one big kit!

The detail of this kit is very good straight out the box, the brake peddle moves.

as does the suspension, and the steering. also a few hours drilling the brake discs, good fun

Could you explain how you used the microballoons for the cloth effect?, please.

Superb start to this kit Duncan. I love the fibreglass technique you have used and they way in which you have executed it is just perfect---very realistic.

Duncan1098

Hi Porsnatic, useing the Microballoons, first I painted a good coat of matt black onto the seats, then dusted the Microballoons on, blew off and tapped off any excess, let it dry, then sprayed over the whole thing with matt black. hope this makes sence!

This looks great. Your underbody looks very well done. :eek7::eek7:

And thank your for the information on your microballs-technique. I should try that on my next seat. I´ll also take a deeper look into your fibreclass-work.

Keep us updated.

Really nice start. I like the weathering and the seat grp.

I've just had a look at my old kit that I started years ago. Out of interest does your body have the rain gutters? I can't believe I would have sanded mine off! :redface:Maybe Tamiya missed them out as I think it was based on the 1/12th RC shell?

Eric Cole
02-15-2009, 05:59 PM
I think the rain gutters are missing from the kit... at least the one I'm building doesn't have them. There was a very faint mold line where the rain gutter/drip rail would be but it has to be sanded away. The seam line looks even worse than not having the gutter at all.

Duncan1098
02-16-2009, 05:16 PM
Yup, no rain gutters on mine, if one wants them I suppose it would be easier enough replicating it with wire.

I have to keep an eye on this thread. I have started this kit by put it away for a while. This is one of my favorite liveries. I also plan to do an oob. How did you make this brake clips?

Few more photos, working on the engine, washed the fibreglass bits with yellow, and a sand colour to try and get the colour a bit more accurate, then weathered it.

This is coming along beautifully - you're doing a great job and I'm very interested to see more.

Just took delivery of the re-issued kit today via ebay, mint at less than half price, after two years to looking and missing a few! It really is very impressive and I hope I can do it the same justice as this thread.

In amongst all of the 1/12 F1 cars I have to build, resides one of these. Somehow I think the only time it will look similar to yours, is while it's still in the box. Great job, excellent work. If I'm lucky, mine will be half as good.

Bit more progress, added some wiring on the ignition, also got the engine in, plus added a bit more wiring, bit more work to do on the weathering on the exhaust, and turbo, and removing some casting lines.

Bit more done, working on the front end, started on the wiring, come to a halt though, need some thicker braided hosing for the oil tank, so waiting for it to arrive, once that is done just got to fit everything in.

I wasn't able to open your message because my browser blocked it and then after I adjusted the popup blocker it wasn't there for me to open again. As for the SMS 935 kit - I don't know how much you need for it. I have one SMS kit that I got from a guy in Norway for $450.00 USA dollars. He said he has 5 more kits to sell so if you cannot match his price I'll probably just order thru Morten Roesok - if you're interested let me know - John18d - I have been building scale replicas for 35+ years now, but I have only recently joined the forum. Hope to have some of my builds on the forum soon.

Hi

I would recommend buyer beware! IIRC it is an Ebay scam, where buyers won't get the kit. I think I saw it somewhere - maybe in AF?

Anyway great model! Very well made indeed!

I would recommend though to get your Digital SLR cleaned. There are a lot of specks on the pictures which is not background, but simply on the chip behind the mirror. These days autocleaning chips are all the craze, but I'll bet that your camera doesn't have this feature - mine doesn't either... All it take to dust the chip is a change of lens on a windy day in a dusty place. It is quite frustrating!

Cleaning is easy with a bit of caution. Do not blow with your mouth into the camera! Use a little handheld blower 'bubble' and point it into the camera in 'sensor cleaning mode'. This mode is on Canon cameras selected in the menu. Activate it an the mirror opens and ot is possible to see the sensorchip. Point the camera opening downwards and blow up onto the sensor and let dust have time to sort of leave the camerabody. Take a couple of blows and reattatch the lens. Take a picture up in the blue sky with F-stop on the highest it can get like 32 or something. If there are more specks do the same again a couple of times. There will sometimes be specks that are harder to get rid of.

I have tried my hand with wet cleaning but find it messy and expensive with the special 'shovel buds' that is one shot only.

A better solution is a special sensor cleaning brush that remowes dust by the use of static electricity! Sounds spooky, but it isn't. There are two ways - on called a butterfly which is practically a brush mounted on a Dremel! It is quite pricey though, so a more econimically viable solution is the manual version with a brush and a small blower. After the brush has been treated as per instructions - one time only: Washed and dried, it can be 'charged' with the blower and the brush can then lightly be moved across the sensor and by that attracting the dust particles. When I heard of this I said... yeah right! But it actually works.

This a onetime investment, so I'm now checking my camera before photoshoot to avoid removing specks in photoshop afterwards.

Hi

Naturally they can do it... at a price! Here in Denmark it is anything from 75£ to 100£ each time :-( I'm using my camera a lot, and just a single lensechange in windy conditions can send you back to square one - I learned it myself! Same thing I did with straightening and building bicycle wheels many years ago, but that is another story ;-)
