93 deville stalling problem

93 Deville tour coup 4.9.
I was given this Cad by a family friend who I have done many a favor for, she told me that it die's and wont start untill it sits for awhile and sure enough after picking it up it stalled on me and would not start, engine turns over fine but will not catch on a single cylinder, after a few hours of sitting it will start right up and runs great but stall again after 10 minutes or so.
This post is a bit premature since I haven't had a chance to buy a Haynes book on it or had a chance to check for spark or fuel when it died on me "no tool's with me" but just thought I'd throw this out there and get some thought's until I get clear weather and a chance to spend some time on it.

First it has not thrown a code, no check engine light, the past owner said her mechanic told her it was her distributor and that was changed, "supposedly", looks old to me.

Personally I'm leaning away from spark due to in my experience once ignition elec goes bad it stay's bad, where this car will start after a few hours.
One of my bigger questions is, since the Cad is a GM product is it known for the same fuel pump problems as my other GM products, "GMC truck, Astro van etc"?
I moved away from a problem with the cat conv "though it does rattle a bit" because while the car runs it runs so good, and in my experience when a cat goes bad performance suffers noticeably.

Are there any common fuel delivery problems with the Cad?
Does it sound like I'm on the right track?
Thanks for any help or insight.

Basics, when it won't start do you have spark, will it start spraying carb cleaner into the intake?

Thanks maxwedge, yea I knew my post was premature since I have not even gone to the basic's yet, you have helped enlighten me through several other projects, as well I have posted almost your exact words to others.
The weather in my neck of the woods has kept me from getting to the car so I have been getting antsy about it.
Weather is supposed to be clear for a day or two so I should have time to at least get to the basic's, "if" I can get it to fail again, yesterday I ran it parked in my drivway for 1/2 an hour and it wouldn't die/stall, intermittant = agravation!
Thanks for the reply

First guess would be ignition module failing when hot. If you pull it, many auto parts stores can test it. Also verify that dielectric grease, as a heat insulator, was used when installing it.
