I have a 1999 CVPI with 87k miles on it and it won t charge. I had the alternator tested and it tested good. It was tested off of the vehicle. I put the alternator back on and it still won't charge. All the wires appear to be on tight. Anyone got any ideas?

The vehicle was marked and the console and lights were all removed. Runs good just won t charge

thanks in advance

How old is the battery?

Did you check for frayed wires that may be shorting out and preventing the circuit to charge the battery?

Have you checked all the fuses under the hood? There is a 20 amp fuse there that controls the alternator.

I had a run of CVPIs that had bad PCMs that would cut off the alternator ground then they wouldn't charge. I don't remember what year they were, but I remember I saw a couple a week for a few months and they weren't new, they'd been on the road for a while before this problem began manifesting itself.

Thank you way2old. This car was bought at a new york state auction and the 20 amp fuse was missing. This was a trooper car with 87k miles on it ... Its in real good shape except for where they scraped the paint to get the decals off.

Is the 1999 a good year or was there problem with them? the guy wants like 2 grand for it. The tranny fluid is nice and clean, oil is clean and tires and brakes are good BUT it sounds like there is an exhaust leak? Do these cars have exhaust manifold problems ir cross over pipe problems? Big job if its a manifold?

I like these cars because they seem fairly tough and you get alot of car for 2 grand? is it worth it? 1999 with 87k miles

We have not had any out of the ordianary problems with the 99 CVPI's we have. The exhaust leak ypu noted is probably either the gasket between the converter and the H pipe, or it has broken an exhaust stud in the head. If it is a broken stud, it is labor intensive to get it repaired. If you have the time and the tools, you can do it yourself for a gasket and a stud. We sell our CVPI's on an internet site and anyrhing with under 100k usually goes for over 2200 to 2500 dollars. Without looking at the vehicle, I think you are getting a pretty good deal on it. Good luck and let us onow what you decide.
