Vibration when idling in gear?

Hello,

I have a 1994 Saturn SL2 and when I'm idling in gear (Drive, Reverse, etc.) I get a steady vibration. However, when I take it out of gear and sit in park or neutral then the vibration decreases greatly. I can also hear something vibrate in front of the firewall somewhere when I begin to accelerate or I can hear it slightly when it's just vibrating during idling in gear. After the initial acceleration though, the sound and vibration in the car dissipates until you come to a stop again (red light, stop sign, etc.). I've taken it to two different auto shops and just had them "look" at it and they said the motor mounts looked fine. One said that they thought it might be something with the transmission somehow. I'm not sure about that even though it has been shifting a little harder lately. It's an automatic and I baby the thing when driving and try to keep the transmission fluid/filter clean. One of the auto shops told me to try a tune-up...which I did without seeing any differene in the vibration. My RPMs are at the correct level when it's ideling in gear as well. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

P.S. I have changed the ETSC to the brass tipped one and keep my oil/filter changed regularly.

Thanks.

Bad motor mount. replace it. Especially if its stock from '94.

Also make sure you change your tranny fluid and filter every 20K miles.

+1 It's not a hard repair at all. Just make sure you put a block of wood under the motor and not just jack the up on the pan as you will crush it.
