I would swap out the LX5 for a L32 or L67 engine with Transmission and all accessories, harness ecu, 1 driveaxle I prefer this if its a nice GLS you'll be keeping. But if you have the 3.5 I'd pick it out of thier, but unscrew and unclip, unclamp everything even take the hood off.

krivasauto--

Based on the 1999 Shop manual the procedure is to drop it out the bottom with the engine tranny attached to the subframe. This may just be the standard GM answer, as I haven't read anything about anyone with first hand experience pulling this engine.

It's a 50 step procedure for removal, and I was a bit supprised that the procedure included the removal of the starter and alternator before the subframe is lowered.

Keep us informed as to how it goes. There's a few people on this forum with questionable rear headgaskets, who are considering headgaskets or potentially engine replacement if they keep the Intrigue..

Thanks for the update--

Based on the pictures it appears that you pulled the inner axle from the transmission assuming you were going to pick it out the top.

Now that you've done it, I guess you'd keep the engine on the subframe and the axles in the transmission everything would clear I would imagine.

So you used the cherry picker to lower everything out the bottom, did you lift the body to clear the top of the engine, or did standard jackstands work (to have the body elevated so there's enough clearance to lower the engine below to get it out?

This gives me some hope that the 3.5 might be something that can be serviced/replaced in a standard DIY garage.

Thanks for the info, and good luck with getting everything installed. Maybe your install is complete :-)
