95 coil pack

Are the coil packs interchangeable?Can I replace the 3-6 coil pack with a spare that is not designated 3-6 on top or will that screw something up.& why would the 3-6 coil pack go out twice within 6 months? Just bad luck or is their something causing it?

I actually swap coils around to help diagnose- so to answer your question- the 3-6 is there just to help you know what wires go to which cylinders- If your cylinders are misfiring- - could be the plug wires- Your old 3-6 coil may still have been good- and just disturbing the wires (by changing the coil) made the problem go away for a while- due to some bad plug wires. I've seen this several times- if you don't have new wires- then you are due..

What about the contacts on the ignition spark control that the coils mount on?

I believe those ISC units can be checked at the autoparts stores.

The coils are interchangeable.

How did you determine there was a problem with the 3-6 coil first time and then second time? Were the resistances off on primary or secondary.

New quality plug wires and the correct AC spark plugs are called for if they haven't been changed in a long time.

I have installed new AC Plugs & wires still idle bad so I checked for spark & found no spark @ the coil,so I had a couple of spare coils that I was able to install.Know I have good spark @ 3-6 but a little worried why this is the second time in less than 6 months that the 3-6 coil pack has burnt out.Is this just dumb luck or is something else causing this coil to pre-maturely die?:confused:

On a DIS ignition, excessive resistance in the wires, or plugs can lead to early coil failure. That is why high quality wires & plugs are most important!

I have installed AC Plugs which seem to be the recommended plugs here But why does that same coil seem to be problematic,is it just coincidence?And yes I did install a cheap $20.00 set of wires.

Did both coils fail before you changed the wires? Check the resistance on your new wires, they should be less than 1.5K ohms per foot, otherwise you will have problems. (I use MSD wires rated @ 50-ohms per ft.) Remember, #6 has the longest wire, which creates more resistance. I have seen some over 4-ft long. Check the resistance on the # 6 wire, and compare with the #1 wire and you will see what I mean. BTW, don't skimp on wires, you should replace the cheap set you have with ACDelco, Belden, Autolite-pro, or MSD; your engine & coils will thank you!
