Fuel Pump makes a Whinning noise

My fuel pump makes a whinning noise when I start her up and drive on the streets and free way.
Is that normal or do I need a new pump?

Mileage and year will help us. Ford's pumps do whine some and it may be considered normal. However, if it is high mileage and the filter has been neglected for some time, the pump could be on its way out. There is no way to determine when the pump will fail.
