1985 blazer died and locked upheatherhmg 01-20-2009, 01:20 AM I just bought this blazer and it needs some work. But I was driving it and I knew I need a new batter and right as I'm pulling into the parking spot of my apartment it dies. I try to charge it but it wont start so I get some friends out to push it. It wouldn't move we made sure the brake was off and make sure we didn't have it in gear. They pushed so hard they lifted the back end so I finally called a tow truck. He picked it up and moved it when I wasn't out there but went I did get out a saw the the front wheels were moving freely. He said that it made a noise but he didn't think anything of it because he didn't know it wouldn't move. I haven't tried to move it or start it sense, what could it of been? It's a stick. It was making some noise right under (just drew a blank on the word) where you shift. MT-2500 01-21-2009, 06:21 PM Is engine locked or other? Put a good battery in it and see if engine will crank. heatherhmg 01-25-2009, 04:14 PM If I mess with the carburetor I can get it to start every once in a while. The tow truck moved it and said he heard a squeak sound and then the truck moved. So now the emergency brake is broke cuz I can move it and when i set the brake it can still roll. Would that of been the noise that was coming from under where I shift gears? MT-2500 01-25-2009, 06:20 PM Hard to say. Will it run ok and go work ok in all gears all gears when you do get it started? Std or auto transmission? heatherhmg 01-25-2009, 06:41 PM It's a stick it seems to run ok, when you push in the clutch though it runs weird, I don't know how to explain it but you can hear the difference in the engine. And the clutch pedal shakes. There is alot wrong with it I'm just trying to work one thing out at a time lol. MT-2500 01-25-2009, 07:10 PM Hard to say. Could be engine running problem or a bad clutch. I would get a good trained ear at a repair shop listen and feel it out. Good Luck heatherhmg 01-25-2009, 07:21 PM I think it might be the clutch cuz it grinds when you put it in reverse. I haven't tried to start it sense it died and couldn't be pushed so I don't know if the emergency brake breaking made the noise stop or not. heatherhmg 01-26-2009, 06:10 PM I'm a little confused I replaced the battery so it would start but now it just cranks then stops and sounds like its reving but isn't. And it makes a loud clunky noise from under where I shift gears but the noise stops when it sounds like its reving. I can't afford to tow it again to someone that would know what was going on by hearing it. tempfixit 01-26-2009, 07:54 PM Try using a socket and rachet on the crankshaft pulley bolt and turn the engine a quarter turn, remove rachet and try starting engine again. From your description I am thinking that there are teeth missing on the flywheel so when your starter gets to that point the appendix spins freely thus the reving noise. Just a thought jdmccright 01-27-2009, 11:25 AM The grinding when you try to shift into gear indicates a worn out clutch or throw-out fork. The shaky pedal and a difficulty in getting into gear would seem to reinforce this as the clutch is only partially disengaging when you depress the clutch pedal. Question abt the clunk noise...is it just one clunk or more like a rattling noise when idling that goes away when you rev it? Also, with the new battery, are you able to start it and let it idle or does it just turn over without starting? Your last post was confusing as to this point. Finally, is the truck 2wd or 4wd? If 4wd, was it engaged when you were driving? Did the tow truck guy pick the back end up to move it? This info would help determine the state of the transmission when the guy tried to move it and/or possibly caused damage. heatherhmg 01-27-2009, 02:51 PM It was not in 4 wheel drive I did get a battery and that didn't help it to start. Now it just tried to crank makes a loud clunky noise under where I shift and then sounds like it revs. The noise started when we were driving it and got louder and louder until we went to pull into a parking spot but it died before it made it all the way in. So we tried to jump it wouldn't work so we tried to push it and it wouldn't budge. So we had a tow truck driver come get it and push it in he said he heard a squeak noise and then it moved. We were able to get it to start before we called the tow truck and when I put it in gear it just reved high and didn't move. I found out that now the emergency break is broke and it rolls. jdmccright 01-27-2009, 04:40 PM First, I think the clunking noise then a whizzing/revving noise is the starter trying to engage the flywheel. But I'm guessing the flywheel's or the starter's teeth are worn away and only engage some of the time. You can remove the starter or pull the access hole cover to check this. Not sure about the noise you heard when pulling into the parking space, but my first thought is to check the lube levels in your transmission, transfer case, and the rear differential. If any have been run dry or you see drips coming from these parts, then I'd look closer at that part for the problem. There are little fill plugs on the right side of the tranny and diff or on the back of the transfer case that you dip your finger into...you should be able to feel the oil right at the bottom of the fill hole. If you find one low, pull the drain plug and let it drain into a big plastic container...oil change ones are cheap. Then inspect the plug itself, which usually has a magnet on the end of it. Big metal particles means damage while a very fine grayish sludge is acceptable. Start there & see what you find. heatherhmg 01-27-2009, 05:44 PM The noise I head when I pulled in is just like the noise I hear when I go to start it a clunky noise. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
