22r fuel tank pickup cloged ??

hi i have a 81 toyota 4x4 i let it sit for about 5 years well i got her fierd up the other day but she seems to have a cloged pickup in the gas tank ? my manuals dont say much but is there a ball check valve in the tank or somthing to get cloged i know it is pumping fuel i put a vinil tube in a jug of fuel and the pump sucked it right up has anyone ever heard of this ??

There is a screen on the end of the pick-up tube that filters out sediment in the tank. After 28 yrs it just may be clogged.

if you decide to drop the tank & remove the pick-up to check for clogged screen make sure you buy a can of JusticeBrothers lubricant & spray the the 8mm bolts or screws that hold the cover on or you probably will break the heads off after 24yrs.

Opps I guess my math is not very good this morning 28yrs. not 24.Did you change the fuel filter or just blow out the fuel lines it may not even be in the tank try that before you do the tank thing :2cents:

That's a good point, the entire pick-up assy is usually very rusty, so be very careful. The metal tubes that the hoses hook to will be very fragile.
