people with long hair call them "hair rippers" :)

I call them a horizontal nut finder. No matter how clean your shop is, your creeper will roll into a specialty metric fine-thread nut that you lost three months ago, after you had ordered a new one because you thought it was lost, and now it shows up stopping you from rolling under the car.

My college shop instructors discouraged any student from having long hair, loose clothing, neckties etc; anything that can get caught in machinery.

It's gruesome to contemplate, but there have been plenty of cases over the years of long hair getting caught in a moving fanbelt. :mad:

My college shop instructors discouraged any student from having long hair, loose clothing, neckties etc; anything that can get caught in machinery. I can't say I've ever seen anyone in an auto mechanics shop I've been in, with a necktie! (Unless they were the customer.)
