I just bought a new 09 Camery XLE and found a little quirk. The outside temperature gauge read 41 in the garage then 36, 34, 32, 30, 27, 25, etc... It would even flicker between 30 and 32. Why does it not register certain numbers? Why is it not all even or all odd if it's by two degree increments? And where is the thermocouple or resistor that reads the temperature located so I can check it?

Don't know for sure on your's but on many cars the temp sensor is on the frame behind the front bumper.

This car is still under warranty. Have a Toyota dealership fix the faulty outside temperature gauge.:)

Some displays do not update instantly...they read the sensor and update the display after a certain period of time and/or they take a time-averaged reading. This helps to prevent flickering between two whole numbers, which can be distracting. Why it would jump back and forth between even or odd numbers (two-digit range)? I dunno. Like JOET mentioned, it's new and under warranty...let the dealership handle it for free.

I have an 07 Camry XLE with the same outside temperature sensor system. What your sensor is doing sounds normal to me. I would still mention it to the dealer if you are not comfortable with it. They will probably tell you it's normal, but at least you have it on record.

Thanks guys. I had already spoke with the dealer and was taking it in for them to look at it. I just found it odd that with all the nice features of this car there was this odd little thing about the temperature gauge readings that my piece of junk 99 Blazer does better at. It's just a little annoyance more than anything.
