ive got a 95 ls that is stock besides the clutch. it wont start. it turns over and tries to fire every once in a while but dies right out

i know that i have a bad spot in my starter. only other problem i have noticed is that it idles high (around 2k) until it gets warmed up and then is normal.

i was thinking my timing belt possibly but would it try to fire with a broken/slipped belt? well any input and suggestions would be great
