Adding Sirius to my Intrigue

Well, it's about time I add some descent music to my ride!

I'm looking for suggestions to adding my Sportster 5. I'm hoping to figure out how to get to the back of the radio and install the input that dirrectly feeds the radio's input. That way I don't get noise from all the local radio stations.

Any suggestions or pics? :smokin:

Not meant to turn you off but mine is a 2000 GLS equipped Bose system with CD changer proly the same system as that in yours. I once took the unit out of the dash to fix a CD jammed inside, and didn't find any additional ports that you can plug anything into. The whole thing has only a multi-connector receptacle and an antenna socket in the back and that's it.

It's easy though to take the unit out. there are 2 screws under the centre armrest lid, remove them and you can pop the trim piece off, then remove the traction switch from it and you can remove the trim piece. Putting the gear to neutral will help. Next pop and remove the bezel around the stereo/AC, remove the screws holding the head unit to the dash and take the unit out.

I assume he's alking about connecting the Sirius radio directly to the antenna input using the FM direct audio relay.

It's also possible to wire it up via RCA to the CD changer input (if yours has one) using one of these. Tobey got me on my input question....

Thanks guys for your suggestions.
I appreciate the two screws hint too Canatto.

I guess IF I had that alternative CD input connection, it would give me CD quality sound over that which FM can provide. So, after I take my radio out I'll do some investigating.....I wonder if anyone else has done that?

Why not use a tape adapter? You could wire it in such a way that only an inch or two of wire was showing, and you would have better sound than FM.

I say you would have to have a couple inches, because I dont think the radio will allow a "tape" to be permanently inside the radio, it will probably kick it out once in a while, especially if you push a wrong button on accident or something like that, so there would need to be a little slack in the wiring for that or it might cause an issue.

Or...if you wanted to get real crazy you could just get a quality aftermarket receiver with an auxiliary input, that would get you what youre wanting, plus youd have better sound quality anyway.

I've also looked into wiring XM Radio into a 2002 Intrigue. The radio for the 2002 is connected to the automobile Serial network. You can tap it in using aftermarket Aux Input systems made by aftermarket companies, but this requires a Aux input system that is compatible with the 24 pin connector at the back of the radio. This Aux converter is about $75-$100.

I ended up going with the cassette adapter. After 50 hrs of running the radio will warn you to CLEAN the tape deck. Hold down the eject button until it says clean, and it will remove this warning.

The only disadvantage is that both the cig lighter and the passenger aux power connector are always powered. I noticed that there's a factory installed Aux power drop under the foot panel on the passenger side, but I haven't looked into finding a connector to mate with it yet.

I think for 40-50 bucks, it's a very worthwhile add-on. I've had sooo may custom systems that I hate the thought of theft. So, I'll just leave it stock. I actually LIKE my Bose system...

I'll do the install and show you guys the results--give me 10 days.
