Hi All,

I have 1999 Camry with 119K miles on it and I own this for the last 2+ years. The car used was very quite till last week. Since one week when I start the car as well as when I accelerate the engine is louder compare to last week and I need to step on the gas to accelerate. Tire pressure is ok and I have done regular oil change and timing belt replacement a year back.

I live in Milwaukee and temperatures are in single digits in the morning. Is this a reason? I am a novice and this is my first car.

Thanks in advance for your reply

How about your oil level?

What oil do you use? For colder weather you need thinner oil. What oil is recommended for your engine?

I once had problems with my car and found out that I lost an oil filler cap...

I would check for an exhaust leak between the manifold and the catalytic converter. The leak usually messes up the upstream O2 sensor readings and causes the ECM to compensate for it. Lower fuel economy is another symptom. Have someone sit in the car and rev it while you listen for it. Usually just loose flange bolts, but the "doughnut" gasket in between the flange sections could be bad. Hope this helps!

An exhaust leak will get louder and be easier to find if you cover the exhaust pipe with your gloved hand and have someone listen up front.

Hi,

You are 100% right on pointing the problem of exhaust leak between the manifold and the catalytic converter. I took it to Midas and they have replaced the same.

Thanks a lot!!!
Isaac
