I just had my pinion seal replaced at the local dealer. After about 2000 miles, it started leaking enough to spot the driveway. I returned to the dealer and they said that I needed to have the yoke changed. Has anyone had this trouble. I doubt there is anything wrong with the yoke, suspect bad installation of the seal.

There is a product to install over the sealing surface of the yoke. If the yoke has had a groove worn in it that is. In fact the dealer so says after stealing your money the first time you need a yoke? I'd make him eat that as you paid for the job once and the so called tech should have noticed that.

What I suspect is the nut on the yoke isn't as tight as it should be. I changed my pinion seal 2 times and putting a seal saver on once only to have it leak again. I finally fixed it after reading an article in Hot Rod Magazine that if the nut isn't tight enough the pinion shaft will wobble making the seal leak. I marked the nut before I removed it, changed the seal, reinstalled the nut tightening it a little past the mark I made before removal. I now have a leak free pinion yoke.
