Hey guys

To forget the xanavi disaster, started a new build...
Shame on tamiya for not adding tyre and rim decals, it's the re-release of the McLaren mp4-5b...
Searched my spare decal box et voila... We have tyre and rim decals :smokin:

The pixs:

Looks like in the last picture there is something wrong, but thats because it isn't glued yet:smooch:

Enjoy,

I like this version even more than MP4/4 good luck with the build. Nice start already. But is that true that tamyia does'nt provide tire decals or it was just your box?

Its true, there are no tyre decals... Dont know why they dont add them annymore. Even in my 1/12 bigscale Mclaren mp4/6 (re-release) i cant find any tyre decals... for my 1/12 i have a tyre template for airbrush :smooch: ... The decals for this build i've got out of my spare box.

I bought an improved sheet of Cartograph decals for my old 1/12 312T kit from Tamiya and guess what? Every Goodyear sponsor logo was missing from the new "improved" sheet. I don't know for certain but I bet Tamiya has drawn the line on licensing for names and has decided they can do without Goodyear.

Hit the nail on the head. There was (allegedly) a big problem for Tamiya licensing the Goodyear logo for 2008.

Update time!

Tryd something new, the air intakes from the brakes are done... airbrushed them with a silver-gold mixture. With the help of a spare mesh, airbrushed black thru it and voila... Fake carbon:smooch: maybe i'll redo them because i think the gold is to much... What do you guys think? They'll still have to be cleared.

Tyre and rims done. Added some handpainted details :smooch:
Didnt find any decent material to make rim valves so i left them off...

The fake carbon looks really good. As you said it still needs the clear ;)

And for the wheels.. I really like it but I think you should dull-coat them.. they are abit to shiny.. and I don´t wanna be picky but all the arrows are facing the same direction ;)

Keep it up !

I like the carbon idea. I am going to try it on a touring car i'm working on right now. Curious to see it clearcoated too!
Keep up the great work!

smaller than small update...

Started the body... believe it or not, it's the first time i've used putty on a tamiya body  its the light curing stuff... Will sand it tomorrow.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/11363/P1010131.JPG

Tyres re-done. Arrows point the right way now :naughty: Didn't have flat clear so sprayed semi gloss and toned the white from the goodyear decals down with pencil dust... Think it looks ok.

Btw air intakes swim in the Mr.Muscle, gonna retry the airbrush carbon:smile:

My 1/20 MP4/4 (black box too) also doesn't come with the dry transfers for the tyres. And I believe some sponsors' decals might not be included as well (though I'm not sure about that). Need to buy some aftermarket decals.

I agree- Also it's very clean build :)
For tamiya: MP4-13 doesn't include that West markings (even nontobaco logo) for front wing)

Also my mp4-4 arrived and it has no tire decals as well...

Hi, progress looks good, but if I can make an idea for improvement (but it is too late now with decals I guess) I would take the paint with fine finishing paste, than clear coat and again finishing paste before apply decals. But otherwise it is really good. Can't wait next update.

So i may not be able to build as much as i'd like...

Nice and clean work; those replacement connectors sure add to the realism.

Have you checked that the body still fits with those cables on top of the sidepods? Now's the time to find out.

Thanx bill, the car will be displayed with the body off  ... those are not replacement connectors, just cut off the tops to make it easier to drill holes for the electric wires:wink: and then painted them in gold leaf.

Inverted the bolts and made sure the brake discs still fit in the air inlets.
Primed, gloss black is next and then alclad time...

Oh, yes, I am still very much interested. Good idea to reverse the bolts.

You might like to consider painting the edge of the brake discs a different tone of grey (different with respect to the brake surface) as an indication of wear?

Kind regards,
Bill

Can't believe I missed this thread until now. All looks excellent, some nice work so far. The cockpit is looking very neat and I agree with the previous comments about the seat belts, they do look nicely textured. What material did you make them from..??

SuperMele

The seatbelt material i used was from a thick napkin, cut to size and airbrushed in the color i needed. The grey under the seatbelts is just tamiya tape airbrushed grey

Btw thanx for the comments!
