Rear brake replacement 98 GPproscroby 12-29-2008, 09:44 PM I have seen a few tips on brake replacement, but is there an "official" how-to for replacing the rear brakes on a 98 GP? Is it recommended that the rotors be replaced at the same time instead of resurfacing? BNaylor 12-30-2008, 08:35 AM The procedure to do the rear brakes is basically the same as the front. Exception is the caliper bracket bolts and caliper bolts are smaller. 14mm and 13mm. Also, the rotors are top hat style rotors since part of the rotor has the drum for the parking brakes. So if the rear rotors do not come off easily you will have to loosen the parking brakes at the cable by the gas tank and then readjust once the brake job is completed. It is best to replace the rotors versus resurfacing. The rotors should be checked for lateral runout (warpage) The rear rotors are normally cheaper than the front. proscroby 12-30-2008, 08:36 PM Sage advice as usual.
