Blower Motor Not Working...

My wife drove our 01 Intrigue to work this morning and called me after she got to work. She said that she didn't have any heat. Our low coolant light had been coming on and off for a few days so I thought maybe it had sprung a big leak and was out of coolant enough to where it wouldn't blow any hot air!! I went to her work and topped off the coolant which didn't end up being that low after all.... when she got home I checked it out more and found it was just the fan that wasn't working.

So... I dug into this site a little bit and it appears to either be the resistor or the blower motor itself. I have the automatic temperature controls. I tested the input side of the resistor from the ATC and found that as I changed the speed of the fan I got a variable amount of input, ranging from around 4 to 11 volts. I also tested the resistor output and got 12V consistently regardless of what fan setting it is on....

So.. from this I would assume that the resistor is good and it is probably the blower motor. Can I just hook up a little jumper to the fan to test it using 12V from a battery for a few seconds?

You can try but be brief. Motor windings are strange creatures. I can't imagine the motor being too expensive and probably real cheap at pick a part place. Second thought though, taking it off and testing might be the better way. Maybe someone with better electrical skills can let you know.

i would take the fan out and hook it up to 12 amp charger and see if it works or you can take it to parts store like autozone or advance if you got one around but they'll do the same as what i told you to do there for if it test like you did you know if it is the moter. good luck...

I took out the blower motor and it was indeed dead. It was amazingly easy to take out, I was quite happy with that. There was some moisture on the inside of the blower motor itself and looked like it had been getting some moisture for a while. Nowhere else in the passenger area is wet, so I am not sure where it was leaking in at, will need to do a little more research to find out where it should be at. Thanks for the help.

Probably the cabin air filter cover. The gasket can start to slide off, allowing water to drip directly onto the blower.
