CD Player Quit Working

I just had to replace the car battery in my 2004 Malibu since the old one died. After the battery was replaced, the CD player no longer works. It worked fine before. The radio works. We tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and removing and replacing the fuse for the radio. CD player still doesn't work. I tried to retrieve the radio unlock code by pressing #2 and #3 on the radio, but nothing happens.

The CD player is a 6-CD changer and it has 6 CDs in it. When I press the eject button, it says that the player is empty. When I press the load button, it says "Load single disk," which of course, I can't do. I called the dealer and they told me that there is probably something wrong with the CD player, that the CD player not working after battery replacement is just a coincidence, but I really find that hard to believe. They want at least $50 just to check it out.

I've seen elsewhere where people have had this problem and sometimes unhooking the battery helps and sometimes removing and replacing the radio fuse helps. I even saw one guy who said his CD player just suddenly started working again.

Is there anything else I can try? I am really upset about this! :banghead:
