To Chev Moderators: Wasn't sure where to post this.

Would people be interested in an insurance that covered the health of their car like health insurance covers us ?

For instance:

Premiums could be based on an ideal scenario, that a person will do regular oil changes, tune-ups and maintenance services per the manufacturers maintenance schedule in the owners manual.

Premiums could be based on the cost of said maintenance over a years time then pro-rated accordingly.

As with liability coverage a person could choose the amount to cover a catastrophic failure and negotiate the deductable and monthly premiums.

If it is found the operator negligence was the cause of the failure then only a portion of the repair would be covered.

Premium incentives could be rewarded for deligent maintenance of the vehicle.

I think this would encourage people to care for their vehicles.

Truely research a vehicle before purchassing one.

And ease some of the burden of repair costs.

This would also help shops bring in business by accepting this insurance.

Just curious !

Sounds a lot like a product that is out there already : extended warranties. Although some of the points you discuss are different, that may cause some confusion to the public. Then you get into the discussion about the companies that will offer the insurance, hopefully they would be more reputable than many of the companies that offer extended warranties on vehicles today.
