87'f-150/302 Best use of coil upgrade?dfordski 12-21-2008, 12:23 PM I was running brass cap/rotor, MSD 8.5 wires at 17BTDC, 87 octane w/ stock coil w/o ping using AC/delco Dbl. Plat, Finewires w/ .045 gap which performed best of all the plug I've tried out of the box. The only plug that did better were Motorcraft coppers I side gaped and set at .043 (same advance/octane). This allowed me to experience what up until then, had only heard about and thought to be a vicious rumor. That being a $0 Mod that noticeably increased performance while simultaneously increasing MPG's (+2). So then I thought the next thing to do was get a zippier zapper. So I put in a Pertronics 60k/.45 ohm coil. How should I go about getting the most benefit from the new coil.RE: plug/gap/advance/octane choice. I'm guessing I'll probably have to increase the octane, I'm surprised I've avoided it as long as I have. I've got a week dead spot in my work schedule around the first I'm planning to MAFotize the ol' girl(77k miles young). vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
