Keys, pleaserotorfloat 12-19-2008, 07:59 PM Greetings all, I'm rollin' in a 98 Cherokee, with AW4 trans. Seems lately I cannot get my keys out of the ignition after putting it in park. The engine and electrics switch off, but I can't quite get that last bit of a turn to remove the key. :banghead: It is very hit and miss, sometimes happening at every shutoff, and then not happening again for weeks. I have lubricated the key and keyslot with a small amount of graphite lube with no change. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Saudade 12-19-2008, 08:23 PM There is a shifter interlock that prevent key removal unless the trans is in park. Make sure you push the shifter fully forward. rotorfloat 12-21-2008, 02:11 PM Thanks Saudade. The shifter is going fully forward into park, transmission must be in park to as it won't roll or anthing as if it were in another gear. I'm beginning to suspect that a slight shifter linkage adjustment is required. Happy Holidays! Saudade 12-21-2008, 04:10 PM There's a cable that connects to the shifter for the interlock (at least, on my 88 it's a cable). It then connects to relay. This part prevent shifting out of park unless the brake is depressed. Can you shift without pressing the brake? ironman2712 12-22-2008, 08:42 AM i had the same problem-just spray wd40 into ignition keyhole and relise buttom on the shifter-and then use your thumb to let it get all over the interlock inside shifter( repeat whole operation a few times),if the keys still don't come out when off-work with your thumb-it shoul reliese keys after a few push-ins rotorfloat 02-22-2009, 03:32 AM Thanks Ironman. I took your advice and lubed the shifter button. It's been over 2 months and I haven't had a problem  vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
