What would cause a gas smell??? I just noticed it today. I seems to be coming from the driver side fender/door area. Any ideas. Not too long ago I replaced fuel pump, filter, and FPR and I din't smell gas until today.Any ideas???

Raw gas or exhaust fumes?

Look under it and check for leaks and check gas cap and filller neck area.

Check all hoses and vents and canister.

I wanna say raw gas. I do remember when the guy who changed the fpr never changed the gasket.

I looked for leaks underneath but I didn't find any. The smell is coming from the top of the engine behind the throttle body.

When I got to work I heard a hissing sound from the driver side front wheel area, I lifted the truck a little and had a closer look and found where the hissing was coming from. The hissing and smell is coming from a leak from a bent/pinched plastic fuel line. It is an S shaped plastic between 2 steel lines. My questions now are 1. where do I get a replacement for this line (other than the dealer). 2. Can I use anything else as a temporary fix incase I have to order this part? I will take a pic as soon as I can so you guys can see what im talking about. Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

You are welcome.

Plastic is hard to fix.

Some parts places make a barbed splice for plastic line.
But the plastic needs heated without any flame/electric sparks before pushing it on the barb part.
Good old hot water workes at times.

New line from gm would be your best bet.
Good luck

would I need to buy a kit/set or could I buy just the one I need? Do you know more or less how much these run for?

If the line is where you can get to it and cut it you can just slip in a brass barbed coupler.
You will need a coupler to fit you line size.
Check you parts place on what they have.
Good lick

Thanks for the help MT-2500. I just got a quote for fuel lines @ 2.00 per foot from my local junk yard, now I just hope to find a blazer or s10 there. I'll try the repair first though. Oh BTW I just called the dealer and the guy said they run from 30.00 to 300.00. Yeah like I said I'll try the repair first, the junk yard second, then if no luck I'll go to the dealer.

I just realized I forgot to mention that the pinch is directly where it connects to the steel hose. I couldn't see a connector of any kind at the end of the plastic line.

On a side note, I wonder why GM didn't make these hoses all steel? I understand that they couldn't just make one long one ( because it would be a pain in the rear to replace), but they could have made the plastic lines that connect the steel ones steel aswell!!! :screwy:

Plastic sometimes is better than steel.
No rust out and is cheaper to make.
Good luck

Could I use the heat from a blow dryer to pull off a plastic line while it still attached to my truck???

I would no advise it.
If you want it off cut it off.

Why do you want it off?

I found a line at the junk yard that might fit but i need to take mine off first. The one I found looks a little too long so I might have to repair the one I have on there already, so I didn't want to damage the plastic sleeve.

The plastic fitting are not made to take apart and put back on.

The only time I have used a big hair dryer and or hot water is to slip the plastic line onto a brass splice fitting.
And even that is a riskie repair.
Good luck

When I get home I'll post a pic of what I'm talking about. While I was looking for a pic on the net for something similar to mine, i found some people had replaced their lines with rubber hoses. Can I do thin with mine or is that just for "older" Blazers. The pic below is not mine.

Here's an actual pic of mine. Is this repairable with a brass coupler a piece of rubber hose and some hose clamps or should I bite the bullet and go to the dealer. FYI I already but the stuff to attempt the repair. The top pic is where it goes connected to (not the fuel filter) on top of pic is where the hose is damaged.

That is a bad spot to try a repair.
Plastic to metal there.
I never use rubber hose to repair.
To much pressure.
Sometimes over 65 lbs.

I would go for a new fuel line on it.

I was going to cut the line where its already bent, shove the brass coupler into the plastic line, on the other side of the coupler I was going to use another quick release piece that I got from the junk yard. The 2 plastic hoses would be held in place with the hose clamps. I just thought of this right now.

Originaly I was thinking: shove the brass coupler in the plastic line, then using just enough rubber hose to connect the second half of the coupler and the steel line(like the sleeve that it has) and to secure all this the hose clamps.

Do you think this would work??? Should I give it a try???

MT-2500

Hose clamps dwill not clamp it right.

You need to heat the plastic line and slip it over the barbed fitting and let it shrink tight.
Even that is a riskie repair.
But you can try it.
Good luck And let us know how it goes.

Thanks MT-2500!

I'm going to do this when I get home. I will take some pics and let you know how my repair turns out.

Well I did the repair and it almost worked, but then it started spraying gas everywhere!!! Dang it!!! I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet. $107 for a new fuel line. Oh and I also found out from the dealer that the plastic and steel line is one piece and you can't just buy the plastic piece by it's self. I could have taken out the whole line from the junk yard had I known this, but like a dummy I CUT IT at the steel line!!! I thought it was 2 pieces.

So I thought I fixed my problem but I still have a Leak and noew I have no clue where from!!! I replaced the plastic piece of fuel line that was pinched/bent and now im thinking this wasn't even my problem hose. As soon I start the truck the only thing you can see is a fine gas mist and a drip drop of gas on the heat shield above the tranny on the drivers side. Is there any where else between the pastic lines and the top of the motor where I could have a leak or could it be another plastic piece faulty???

Do not start or run the engine with it leaking like that.
You will need to spot the leak.
If the fuel lines have a plastic cover on them remove it to check them.

There is two fuel lines from frame to back of engine.
With key on pump prine up engine off you should see the leakage.

Hey MT-2500
I found the leak. It's a spray actually!!! I'ts coming from one of the 3 steele lines going to the engine between the firewall and the tranny. I can't really tell which one it is, but it's coming from there for sure. I'm going to take it to a shop and have them deal with it. The shop will only charge me $50 to replace the lines (theres no way in hell I could possibly do it my self) Im not patient enough. Hopefully I'll get the 3 lines this weekend from a guy (2hrs away) who is parting out his 01 sonoma for $15 each, which isn't bad comparted to $100 and up each from the dealer!!!

Hey MT,

Will the fuel lines off a 97 Sonoma with a 4.3 fit/match my Blazer's??? I don't need the whole thing (all the way to the back) just the ones from underneath the driver seat area to the motor.

MT-2500

Thet may.
Match them up or check the salvage yard interchange or have you gm parts dealer check the part no for both.
Good Luck
