92 camry engine issuessherry14 12-18-2008, 09:47 AM I have a 92 camry that has suddenly started acting sluggish and the engine shaking when i accelerate. It hasn't given me much problems before. Any thought or info on this would be helpful. I am planning on having it looked at by a mechanic but I want some opinions before hand. Thanks:smile: Ya'll Brian R. 12-18-2008, 10:12 AM Make sure you bring it to a trustworthy mechanic - one recommended by a knowledgable friend. The first step would be for for him/her to obtain trouble codes from your engine computer. It is likely that your problem is not very expensive, but may be difficult to find. Good luck Airjer_ 12-18-2008, 10:44 AM Sounds like it might be as simple as a tune-up? jdmccright 12-18-2008, 12:21 PM Ayup...tune-up time. Clean/re-gap or replace the spark plugs, clean the distributor cap and rotor terminals of encrusted oxidation would be the first things to do. Check the plug wires and coil for correct resistance and clean the throttle body out. Doesn't sound like it should cost you much for the simple things. Hope this helps! RIP 12-18-2008, 04:41 PM Ditto on the "tune up". Was any maintenance done recently? Which engine do you have? How many miles are on the timing belt? Does it idle fine in the driveway or can you hear it miss like it's running on 3 or 5 cylinders instead of the 4 or 6 it has? sherry14 12-18-2008, 05:58 PM Thanks for the advice . That is what my BF suggested , but now it is knocking after driving a little ways it smells of smoke . We will let ya'll know what we find out but any other advice or opinions would be helpful. Thanks sherry14 12-18-2008, 06:01 PM The engine is a four cyclinder and no I have not had any recent repairs. We will try the tune up first and see what happens but with the new knocking sound it sounds like we will have to take it to a shop. DFBonnett 12-19-2008, 07:56 AM ....but now it is knocking after driving a little ways it smells of smoke . You might wish to check the coolant level immediately. It sounds like a possible overheat situation. Rafael2 12-24-2008, 10:11 PM I have a 93 toyota camry v6 with 130,000 miles and have the same knocking problem. From turning on to turning off has that same problem. I replaced couple of parts already but with no results.
