what would cause the speedometer to suddenly go crazy while driving? with no warning it goes from one extreme to another, and will do this for up to a minute. the car will also chug and try to stall out. it doesn't always do it and there's no certain number of miles you have to go before it happens it seems completely random. the car starts up and drives fine other than this so what makes the speedometer go crazy and then makes the car want to stall?

They might be two separate issues. The car conking out might be a vacuum leak somewhere. I'd check all those hoses and the PCV pipe too. I don't know about the speedometer. I'd worry about the thing chugging first.

I believe they are to separtate issue since I also had same problems on my 91 skylark--speedometer still does it(issue in the cluster not worth repairing since I know my car well enough to know my speed--shocking to people at times) the the stall/chug issue was repairable had to replace the 'brain'-ecm which is located under glove box easy driveway repair

Ok, sounds like the "brain" ecm might be my problem. I am new and just posted a question. Would you mind taking a look at my issue and see what u think. thanks!
